A total 131 million working days were lost due to sickness absences in the UK in 2013. More days were lost to back, neck and muscle pain than any other cause, accounting for 31 million days lost, followed by minor illnesses such as coughs and colds at 27 million. Stress and other mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression came third with 15 million days lost in 2013.*
Ensuring that your team is healthy and well-balanced will lead to increased productivity and efficiency, and a reduction in sickness related costs. Regular onsite yoga sessions also help your team to bond – with each other and with you as their employer – which can lead to richer working relationships, higher morale and a deeper commitment to you and your business.
Yoga combines breath and movement to encourage mindfulness and clarity in the present moment, enhancing the focus and attention of your workforce. On site yoga provides an accessible and enjoyable way for you and your team to achieve a better work-life balance.
Gentle exercise is known to release endorphins, which reduce pain and trigger positive feelings in the body. Exercise reduces the risk of major illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer by up to 50%, and lowers the risk of early death by up to 30%. Inactivity is described by the Department of Health as a “silent killer”. Evidence is emerging that sedentary behaviour, such as sitting or lying down for long periods, is extremely bad for your health.**
Attending a yoga class once or twice a week can also:
- Improve sleep quality
- Boost energy levels
- Enhance concentration
- Reduce stress levels
- Increase positivity
“We met Sam when my husband’s back was in crisis. The desk job combined with hypermobility in his joints left us very vulnerable for a while, thinking that chronic back pain would ruin our lives. His NHS physiotherapist pointed us at Sam and that’s when things started to change. We had private sessions for the two of us, my husband got his strength back, and my core strength during my pregnancy improved significantly. We love Sam SO much that we invited her to do sessions at work for all of our team. We couldn’t bear the prognosis for people with desk jobs and the increased risk of heart, back and bad health conditions. Once again, it was transformational. Sam has an innate understanding of how bodies work, what they’re capable of doing and how to gently nurture what is inside of us to improve our mobility, flexibility, core strength and mental wellbeing. Sam is amazing and we can’t imagine life with her.”
